What is the reason why some songs don't work on itunes?

I had 2000+ songs I put onto itunes from several CD data discs. Several of the songs did not work. These were not copyrighted songs, and at least one I made myself. What is the reason why some shows show up and others don't? I cannot figure it out. It cannot be the fact that the CD is not in the player anymore, because I have like 10+ CDs and some songs do play even if they cd is not in the drive. I want to put the songs on my ipod, and I am wondering if I will need to manually upload the songs to my ipod every time I put in a CD, instead of uploading all the songs to itunes and then syncing the music. 1. You might not have fully downloaded them. So try again. If that doesnt help, you might be low on computer memory.
2. i tunes only exepts files that are type (avi) and (mp3)
3. For the shows, check your iPod settings to make sure it's set to sync them. It usually comes up when you plug the iPod in. iTunes is just crazy strange. The only advice I have for songs is to delete them, upload them again and see if they work. Also check to see if they are MP3s if it's a song. If not, iTunes can convert it (Right click on the song, and look for the 'convert to MP3' option)
